North Bellmore man struck by driver traveling wrong way

State Police responded to an emergency call for a  collision on the Wantagh State Parkway at 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13, officials said.

Alexander Simek, 73, of Albrightsville, PA, was allegedly driving the wrong way on the Wantagh State Parkway early Thursday morning when he struck a car driven by Jay Lasker, 54, of North Bellmore.

According to State Police, Simek died on the scene due to injuries suffered in the crash. Officials also reported that Lasker was taken to Nassau University Medical Center to treat lower body injuries. 

The Wantagh State Parkway was closed going southbound between the ramp for the Southern State Parkway and the exit for Sunrise Highway for several hours afterwards.

State Police are still investigating the collision. They are asking for anyone with information to call (631) 756-3300.
