The sweet smell of successful fundraisers

On Oct. 14, the Student Council hosted a bake sale during both of the school’s lunch periods. The selection ranged from bakery fresh bagels to the very coveted and quickly sold out Halloween sugar cookies. The entire selection occupied the whole table, with about 15 different types of foods to choose from.

Every student from grades 3K to 12 had the opportunity to purchase something sweet with their lunch. All proceeds went to funding the upcoming Homecoming Dance on Nov. 10.

Immediately upon entry to the cafeteria, a flood of students crowded around the table in the cafeteria, money in hand, scanning the boxes of treats as the Student Council members rushed to hand out desserts.

A group of teachers remarked in the back, “I don’t remember the last time I’ve seen a bake sale this huge.”

The students were thrilled and excited to see a bake sale, the first in two years, which established a little more normalcy than the year’s prior. Lower schoolers bubbled with enthusiasm on the line, holding their money envelopes, as they looked at their first school bake sale in recent memory.

The middle school and upper-school students kept returning to the line for more items. Jennie Fusco, a middle-school teacher, said she was “very impressed with the success of the bake sale and the amount of money raised.” In total, the Student Council raised $400 towards the dance.

The camaraderie at the fundraiser was very supportive, with multiple people generously donating their change. Their names were written on the cafeteria whiteboard for all to see, dubbed as honorary customers.

There was another school bake sale on Oct. 21, with more Halloween-themed treats to suit the season. This sale does not solely help fund the dance, but establishes a trend of normalcy, school spirit and enthusiasm for future events. The successful sale signals a sweet start to the year!
