Two classes are currently in quarantine and will remain remote for the next two weeks after multiple positive cases of Covid-19 have been found in the Baldwin School District.

School officials were informed on Wednesday about two positive cases of Covid-19 at Meadow Elementary School, according to a letter sent out by Superintendent Dr. Shari Camhi. Additionally, one case in Baldwin Middle School has been confirmed.

“The person who is infected has not been in the building since late September and is currently quarantined,” the letter reads. “All decisions being made are in strict and direct consultation with our school physician and the [Department of Health]. At this time, the DOH has cleared Meadow Elementary School to remain open and no further quarantining is required.”

Camhi said the district is taking the time to complete contact tracing and obtain all the details to ensure information shared with the community is as accurate as possible.

“We will continue to closely monitor these situations and will provide additional updates if needed,” the letter reads. “If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact your building principal.”

In a letter that went out Friday, Camhi said school officials were informed about one new positive case of Covid-19 at Meadow Elementary School.

“As always, our custodial department thoroughly cleans and disinfects all areas of the school every day and night and will continue to do so,” the letter reads.

On Monday, Baldwin school officials said they discovered three positive cases of Covid-19 that resulted in contact tracing at Steele Elementary School and Baldwin High School, according to a letter sent out by Superintendent Dr. Shari Camhi on Monday.

“These cases all stemmed from the same source,” the Monday letter reads. “We have been in touch with the Department of Health who has guided us through the process of contact tracing. Due to the health and safety protocols we have in place, such as mask wearing and social distancing, only one additional person has been asked to quarantine.”

The Department of Health cleared the schools to remain open and no further contact tracing or quarantining is required, according to the letter.

“Thank you to our Baldwin family for their continued diligence and honesty during this difficult time,” the letter reads “We are appreciative of how seriously Baldwin, as a community, has taken this health emergency. It is because of this conscientiousness that we can get through these cases as carefully and smoothly as possible.”
