Village leaders break ground on dog park at Whelan Field in Malverne

A dog park is coming to Malverne this year as Mayor Keith Corbett, along with village leaders, broke ground on its location at Whelan Field last Saturday. The idea had been around the village in recent years, Corbett said, but the Malverne Chamber of Commerce’s Puppy Trot in November had further motivated the village board.

“We were looking at several different spaces throughout the village, and this seemed like the best place to do it,” Corbett said. “It’s something that we’re really looking forward to.”

The village’s Department of Public Works, led by Superintendent Kevin Brady, will begin working on the park in the coming days. The village also plans to build a batting cage at the park.

The dog park is expected to be complete by Memorial Day, and Corbett said that the village plans to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony.
