New York State is honoring the Hempstead Prevention
Coalition with the 2022 'What's Great in our State' System of Care
Award.

The Hempstead Prevention Coalition was presented with the System of
Care Award at the annual 'What's Great in our State 2022' event on May 3. The celebration recognizes the individuals and programs that are successfully advancing the cause of children's mental health in New York State.

"We at Family and Children's Association are extremely proud of the work of the Hempstead Prevention Coalition and appreciative of this
recognition," said Jeffrey L. Reynolds, Ph.D,  President & CEO, Family
and Children's Association (FCA). "Prior to, and throughout the
pandemic, the Hempstead Prevention Coalition makes a difference by
creating safe space for our community youth to engage and be seen. Our
work  supports a renewed sense of community and the development of young leader in the Village of Hempstead that will better position our community for success for generations to come."

A System of Care (SOC) is a coordinated network of cross-system partners that collaborate using governance or infrastructure to achieve their
vision and goals. Its values being family-driven, youth-guided,
community-based and culturally/linguistically responsive.

The Family and Children's Association's Hempstead Prevention Coalition uses an evidence-ased, strategic prevention framework and has actively engaged multiple areas of the community to make a difference. It
includes representatives from all 12 sectors of the community: youth,
parents, business, media, school, youth organizations, law enforcement,
religious, health care, civic/community/ State/ Local organizations.
This enhances the wholistic approach to creating a prevention-minded,
civically engaged, and successful generation of youth.

"The Hempstead Prevention Coalition shows us 'What's Great in Our State' through its wide net of prevention strategies and community partnerships," said New York State Office of Mental Health Commissioner Dr. Ann Sullivan. "This coalition shows us how impactful a System of Care can be within our larger mental health system. We thank the team for ist dedication and commitment to children's mental health."
