Hempstead Town to resume recycling collection

The Town of Hempstead Department of Sanitation will resume recycling collection on May 4, according to a town news release.

Covid-19-related staffing issues caused the town to temporarily suspend curbside recycling on April 6. “The top priority for the Town of Hempstead Sanitation Department is the safety and well-being of the public and sanitation/recycling workers,” the news release stated.

Starting Monday, May 4, residents may leave recyclables at the curb for pickup on their regularly assigned days. If residents are unsure of their assigned recycling or waste collection days, they may call the Department of Sanitation at (516) 378-4210.

The town’s Department of Sanitation service area includes Barnum Isle, Bay Park, Bellmore, Bethpage, East Meadow, Harbor Isle, Levittown, Lido Beach, Merrick, North Lynbrook, Point Lookout, Salisbury, South Westbury, Seaford, Uniondale and Wantagh.
