On Dec. 22 and 23, Turtle Hook Middle School students participated in a mural project in their school hallways. The project, which was funded by the Nassau County Office of Youth Services and NYS Office of Children and Family Services, provided students the opportunity to work with Long Island artist and founder of Saint-Cyr Art Studio, Marie Saint-Cyr, to create and paint murals along their hallway walls.
Through painting these murals, students engaged in the process of beautifying their school while also understanding how messages can be communicated visually.
Art is a language and the walls of the school became a canvas used to promote safe play, safe youth development, safe community, and safe connections for youth in Nassau County, with a focus on knowledge and education.
