Two people were arrested following an alleged robbery attempt at the Walmart in Uniondale on Jan. 7, Nassau police said.

Anya Slater, 20, and Thomas Belajonas, 21, of North Merrick, allegedly tried to steal goods from the Walmart on Jerusalem Avenue. Both were arrested that evening. Slater is facing charges of robbery, assault and resisting arrest. Belajonas has been charged with robbery.

According to detectives, officers responded to a 7 p.m. call about a robbery at the Walmart. Upon arrival, officers found Slater allegedly in a physical altercation with three store employees. It was reported that Slater had allegedly attempted to steal merchandise but was stopped by the employees.

Officers said when they tried to arrest Slater, she allegedly physically resisted, so they used an Electronic Control Device to subdue her. She was then brought to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation, according to police. The employees allegedly sustained minor injuries, but police said they declined medical treatment at the scene.

Detectives said that Belajonas allegedly fled the scene with stolen goods in a backpack. He was later found by police walking near the intersection of Jerusalem Avenue and Jerusalem Road in East Meadow, and he was taken into custody without incident, police said. All stolen merchandise was recovered.

Slater and Belajonas are scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 8 at First District Court in Hempstead.
