Beach advisory issued for Island Park, East Rockaway, and Massapequa

The Nassau County Department of Health has issued a precautionary advisory against swimming at three South Shore beaches due to concerns over water quality.

Hewlett Point Beach in East Rockaway, Masone Beach in Island Park, and Philip Healey Beach in Massapequa are all affected. The advisory follows recent heavy rainfall, which officials say can lead to elevated bacteria levels in the water as a result of stormwater runoff.

The advisory is expected to remain in place until 6 a.m. on Monday, unless additional rainfall or test results indicate continued elevated bacteria levels.

In addition, Biltmore Beach Club remains closed until further notice due to high bacterial counts.

Residents can check for updates on beach conditions by calling the Nassau County Department of Health Information Line at (516) 227-9700.
