Mayor salutes volunteers for their efforts

Posted

Before getting down to official business this Monday at the regular board meeting, Mayor Edwin Fare gave a salute to the village staff and formally recognized three organizations who provided essential and/or additional services to residents during this year’s annual Independence Day fireworks display at Firemen’s Field, which resumed after a three-year pause.

The Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce was commended for organizing ticket sales and getting the fireworks to the field. WeTransport, a school-based bus operator, was thanked for transporting wheel-chair-bound, special needs, and  elderly residents from the village pool parking lot to Firemen’s field. Also recognized was Bethlehem Assembly of God,  whose volunteers helped entertain the children with an inflatable bouncy house and presented giveaways to residents.

“Most people realize, especially our long-term residents that (the fireworks display) is a rather lengthy and large production,” said Fare. I want to recognize “those people who are part of the fabric of the community who volunteered their time and effort so all of us can enjoy this year’s fireworks display.”
