Monsignor Edward Donnelly, 85, of Valley Stream

Monsignor Edward J. Donnelly, of Valley Stream, died on March 11. He was 85.

Donnelly was a retired priest in residence at Holy Name of Mary Church. He served as a priest for 59 years in the Dioceses of Rockville Centre and Brooklyn, serving as associate pastor at St. Patrick’s in Huntington, Notre Dame in New Hyde Park and St. Thomas the Apostle in West Hempstead. Donnelly served as a pastor for more than 30 years, first at St. Anthony of Padua in East Northport, then at Holy Family in Hicksville, retiring in 2004.

He was born in Brooklyn and studied for the priesthood at Cathedral College and Immaculate Conception Seminary.

Survivors include sister Mary Patricia Fields and her husband Wes, nieces and Terese Emge, Marita DeBoard and Susan Flynn, and grandnieces and nephews Josef, Tobias, Kelsey, Morgan, Taylor, Padraig and Lia. He was predeceased by niece Lia Szubert.

A funeral mass was held on March 17 at Holy Name of Mary. Interment followed at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury. Donations can be made in his name to the Holy Name of Mary Parish Outreach Center.
