Students, families, and community members gathered on June 2 to celebrate a major milestone in Seaford Middle School’s history. A special evening of music and reflection marked six decades since the school first opened its doors.
The highlight of the evening was the debut of “Fireworks,” a specially commissioned piece by composer Randall D. Standridge. The composition was received by the district in January, and students spent several months preparing during music classes and small-group lessons.
Approximately 350 students participated, including nearly 250 in the Seaford Middle School Commemorative Band. Performances featured the Woodwind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and both the sixth-grade and seventh/eighth-grade choruses, culminating in a combined performance of the school’s alma mater.
Superintendent Adele Pecora shared a brief history of the district, noting that Seaford Middle School opened in 1965 to ease overcrowding in the then junior-senior high school. She praised the school’s legacy as “a cornerstone of education” dedicated to “academics, creativity, growth and community spirit.”
