When Julie and Jamal Ahmad purchased Dolce Confections last June, they had a lifestyle change in mind. The much-adored sweet shop has existed for 35 years, and they live within walking distance. Jamal, an attorney and accountant, and Julie, a social worker, wanted to go a different route, be closer to home and more available to their children. They had done a lot of international traveling for work and searched for a reason to remain more local.
The Ahmads learned all there is to know about the sweet shop business from the previous owners. Wanting to carry on the fine reputation of the shop, they retained key, longtime employees, such as the chocolate maker and the basket creator. They plan to offer all the same top quality products and more, as well as seasonal and small special occasion events, chocolate crafting, and children’s parties, for which they have a separate room.
Most of the confections, cookies, personalized gifts, and chocolate-dipped fruit are prepared on premises, using only the finest Belgian chocolate. Gifts, baskets, platters and customized molded chocolates are intended to wow the recipients. In addition to addressing every occasion and holiday, they cater to their corporate accounts. Business owners can know that their employees, clients and vendors will be beyond impressed. They aim for a small business, personalized touch.
The shop itself is beautiful and whimsical with several tables in the center. Among the goodies found are chocolate dipped pretzels, edible baskets, candy cakes, crisp rice cake pops, nuts and candy platters, candy totes, gourmet popcorn, pretzel or popcorn pizzas and so much more.
Doubling as a cafe, Dolce Confections serves espresso, cappuccino, hot chocolate, and iced coffee in several flavors with ice cubes made of coffee. They offer frozen yogurt, gelato, frozen drinks, crepes and Belgian waffles.
Products at Dolce Confections are kosher dairy, certified by Rabbi Asher Schechter, Congregation Ohr Moshe in Queens. There is a separate selection of pareve dark chocolates.
DolceConfections ships via UPS and will hand deliver, even to the five boroughs. They strive for prompt deliveries without compromising workmanship, freshness or quality. The store is open seven days a week.
