A teacher in the West Hempstead school district allegedly abused a student.
The allegation became public on March 6 after a school district parent gave News12 a letter they received from the district on Feb. 28, saying the district "has opened a case of alleged child abuse in an education setting concerning an incident involving their child."
The district has filed a report with the Nassau County Police Department regarding the alleged physical abuse between a former teacher and at least one second-grade student.
In a statement given to the Herald, West Hempstead Superintendent Dan Rehman said: “The district is aware of these allegations and has taken all appropriate steps in reporting the claims to the necessary agencies. The individual in question has not been employed with the district since last school year.”
The parent who shared the letter with News 12 claims their child was one of several student victims. The teacher allegedly hit their child with his fist, a ruler and other classroom objects last year.
