Woman allegedly assaults Nassau County crossing guard in Hewlett

A Nassau County Police Department crossing guard was at her school crossing assignment at the intersection of Broadway and Stevenson Avenue in Hewlett when a woman approached her began yelling at the crossing guard at 8:28 a.m. on Jan. 23, according to county police.

The shouting escalated to the woman allegedly throwing pieces of ice at the crossing guard that hit her in the leg. The woman, Dominga Rudder, 46, left the scene of foot, and was found near the intersection of Broadway and Rockaway Avenue, where she was arrested without further trouble.  

A county police department medic treated the crossing guard at the scene. No one else was injured.  

 When at the 4th Precinct, which is also in Hewett, Rudder, who was found to be homeless, said that she would kill the officers and knew where the precinct was located, police said.

She is charged with assault, menacing, obstructing governmental administration, harassment and making a terroristic threat.

Rudder pleaded not guilty and was released without bail. Her next court date is Jan. 31. The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County is representing her.
