Five Towns college, high school students show their scholarly and artistic talents

Josh Brafman and Tzviki Fortgang, seniors at Davis Renov Stahler Yeshiva High School for Boys in Woodmere, were named finalists for the National Merit Scholarship, a honor which reflects dedication to studies and a commitment to learning.

The scholarship program is a nationwide academic scholarship competition that recognizes academic achievement and awards scholarships. Qualified students have an outstanding academic record, are endorsed by school officials and attained extremely high PSAT scores.

Samuel Silverman, of Woodmere, was inducted into the Phi Omega Epsilon honor society at Fairleigh Dickinson University's Metropolitan campus in Teaneck for the 2019 fall semester. Membership in the society requires at least 90 credits and a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Atlantic Beach resident Hannah Fruitman was named to the deans’ list at Tufts University for the 2019 fall  semester. The list honors students with a GPA of 3.4 or better during a semester.

Lesley Guevara, from Inwood,  was named to University of Hartford President’s List for the 2019 fall semester. A 3.75 GPA or higher is needed to qualify for the honor.

Dani Simon of Hewlett performed along with 60 other dancers at the Empire Theatre stage at Muhlenberg college’s Master Choreographers performances. This season’s concert includes works by Bill Evans and Yoshito Sakuraba, both internationally acclaimed choreographers. Evans leads the Bill Evans Dance Company and Sakuraba is the founding artistic director of the New York-based Abarkukas Dance Company.
