Hempstead Town announces cancelations because of nor'easter

The Town of Hempstead announced the following changes Monday because of the nor'easter that moved into the area:

The town Department of Sanitation suspended garbage and recycling collection on Monday. Garbage and recycling pickup will resume on the next regularly scheduled collection day for residents affected by this service change.

Residents serviced by special sanitary districts within the town are asked contact the district responsible for their garbage and recycling pickup for updates regarding possible service changes.

The Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve closed.

Echo Park Indoor Pool Complex closed.

The ANCHOR bowling program was canceled.

The Tax Forum scheduled for Monday at Hempstead Town Hall was canceled. 

The walk-up and two drive-through payment booths at the Hempstead Tax Office will remain open Feb. 1; however, the satellite payment booths at Seaman’s Neck Park, Echo Park and Rock Hall will be closed.

Department of Senior Enrichment transportation services were canceled.

Senior food shopping excursions and lunch programs were also canceled.

“We strongly urge residents to not underestimate this storm, which has the potential to bring up to two feet of snow on top of freezing temperatures and strong winds,” Town of Hempstead Supervisor Donald Clavin said. “Please stay up to date on the status of Town of Hempstead programs and services by visiting HempsteadNY.gov.”
