Juneteenth Jubilee celebration at Malverne High School

Posted

People of all ages enjoyed an afternoon of music, family, jubilation and inspiration at Malverne High School’s football field during the Malverne School District’s Juneteenth Jubilee celebration on June 18.

The district held the celebration in honor of Juneteenth to recognize Black history, unity and community pride. Performers included Samuel Adeyekun, the Malverne Harmony Chorus, DJ Ace Boogie, the Harmony Tree Band and Jason McKenzie, and the jubilee was emceed by Corey Ingram.

The idea for the celebration came about in January shortly after the district’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, according to Davison Avenue Intermediate School Assistant Principal Stephen Benfante. He added that Malverne High School PTA President Denise Pinnock was instrumental in coordinating the districtwide event.
