What does she have to hide?

To the Editor:

I recently learned that a Candidates’ Forum hosted by the Malverne Civic Association was declined by State Assemblywoman Judy Griffin after agreeing to participate. When asked about it by one of the board members of the civic association, she cited that she was an extremely busy person and didn’t have time to attend every event. As I’m sure you are aware, the Malverne Civic Association has run unbiased, professional candidates’ forums for many years, which are open to the public.

In the Herald’s June 30 article about the assembly seat election, Griffin said that she is “running on her record.” If she is proud of her record, she should participate in forums such as this one to defend her voting record and answer questions from her constituents. It is insulting to the Malverne Civic Association and all voters that she has refused to participate in this forum, especially since she claims she is too busy.

She provided a similar response to an invitation from the South Hempstead Civic Association and the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce to participate in their candidates’ debate as well.

What does she have to hide? She can’t defend her voting record, especially since she voted in favor of disastrous “bail reform” and is worried that voters will see her refusal to discuss the issues facing our district.

I truly hope that before Election Day that Judy Griffin will agree to participate in a debate so that the voters can make an informed decision about the best candidate for this position.
