Thursday's winter storm left about 4 to 5 inches of snow in Malverne and West Hempstead on Thursday morning.  The National Weather Service projects that another inch of snow  between Thursday evening and Friday.

The snow turned into light rain by Thursday evening.

Malverne officials are reminding residents and others that vehicles are required to be off the streets for the Public Works Department to effectively plow the village’s roads when snow accumulations are 2 inches or more.

DPW Superintendent Kevin Brady said that in previous storms, people have used snowblowers to send snow to the streets. Instead, he urges them to direct the snowblowers towards their lawns.

“We need cooperation from the residents, especially during big storms,” Brady said.
