PSEG Long Island announced in a statement on Sept. 20 the return of the electrical utility company’s Business Consumer Advocate program and named a BCA for the communities of Elmont, Malverne, Valley Stream and other areas across Nassau County.

Sajida Jackson was named the BCA for Elmont, Franklin Square, Malverne, Valley Stream,
the Rockaways other western Nassau communities. Jackson’s role as a BCA will be to reach out to community members and small businesses and visit over 100 local businesses on a weekly basis, according to the statement.

“The advocates provide a personal touch and concierge service to help PSEG Long Island’s 100,000 small- and medium-sized business customers on Long Island and in the Rockaways,” PESG said in the statement, which was released during Small Business Week.

“Small businesses are the backbone of Long Island, supporting the economy, community and workforce,” the statement said. “PSEG Long Island created the BCA program as a unique way to directly connect with its small- and medium-sized business owners and to provide the best possible service and reliability.”

PSEG Long Island provides electricity services for over 100,000 small- and
medium-sized business customers on Long Island and in the Rockaways, the statement said.

Jackson emphasized that she plans to connect with and help serve community members and local businesses in her role as a BCA. “I know that being a small business owner is one of the hardest jobs there is,” Jackson said. “It’s 24/7, and if we can help make their lives easier, that is something I strive to accomplish.”

The BCA program was originally rolled out by PSEG Long Island prior to the pandemic, but it was temporarily brought to a halt during 2020.

Another service that BCAs are expected offer, the statement said, is to provide customers with help navigating automated transactions and digital communications. Additionally, BCAs are planning to provide information about free energy assessments, grants and rebates, energy-saving upgrades and other services that PSEG Long Island provides for small businesses.

“I love speaking with business customers, hearing their stories, and helping improve their business by providing them information on PSEG Long Island’s money and time-saving programs and services,” Jackson said.

“PSEG Long Island’s BCAs provide personal connections that have always been a hallmark of the company’s commitment to the small business community,” the statement said.
