Arrests made in Grand Avenue Radio Shack robbery

Police are reporting that three arrests have been made in the robbery of the Radio Shack store on Grand Avenue in Baldwin. The robbery and subsequent investigation caused Baldwin schools to enter a lockout for over an hour on May 15.

According to detectives, around 11:18 a.m. on May 15, Cory Elliott, 22, of Queens, Jonathan Bryant, 20, of Brooklyn and Dominique Navarro, 21, also of Brooklyn, entered the Radio Shack store at 1769 Grand Ave. in Baldwin. At least one of the suspects displayed a handgun and an employee of the store was tied up and taken to the rear of the building.

Police were notified of activity in the store and the subjects were seen gathering electronic merchandise when officers interrupted them. An unknown amount of money was taken from a register and the suspects were observed fleeing from the store through a rear door.

Officers subsequently located, identified and arrested the three. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Elliott, Bryant and Navarro are being charged with kidnapping in the second degree, robbery in the first degree, criminal use of a firearm in the first degree, robbery in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. They were arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on May 16.
