Fire Prevention

As the blue light flashes

Posted

The Baldwin Fire Department has been working hard to keep residents safe from fires and fire hazards. The Department responded to 2,169 alarms for the year 2010 – an average of 6 calls per day – and to 174 alarms in the first month of 2011.

The Baldwin Fire Department would like to ask residents of Baldwin to be careful with their snow removal efforts this winter. Please make sure to keep your hydrants free from snow and unobstructed. As you clear snow from your driveways and sidewalks, take the time to keep your hydrants clear as well. Every second counts during a fire, and the extra minute or two it will take firefighters to remove snow from around your hydrants may increase damage to your home or that of your neighbor.

The fire department would also like to remind residents to make sure their house numbers are visible.
