David Knudson, of 2882 Dahlia Ave., was arrested for attempted murder in the second degree among other charges last night after punching and strangling a 32-year-old female victim, according to police. Knudson also placed a garbage bag over the victim’s head while choking her, police said.

According to detectives, Knudson’s attack took place around 8 p.m. yesterday evening when the 42-year-old Baldwin resident began punching an unidentified female victim in the head and face. Knudson also allegedly placed a garbage bag over the woman’s head, put his hands around her throat and strangled her. Eventually, the victim managed to free herself and fled to an upstairs apartment where she summoned police.

Officers responding to the call found Knudson at the scene and arrested him after a struggle. The victim of the attack sustained what police called, “serious injuries” and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Knudson has been charged with attempted murder in the second degree, two counts of assault in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, strangulation in the second degree, aggravated criminal contempt, two counts of criminal contempt in the first degree and resisting arrest. He is due for arraignment today at the first District Court in Hempstead.
