Lieutenant Joseph Brown and the Baldwin and Roosevelt fire departments rescued a woman from a burning home in Roosevelt this week.

Joseph Brown, a lieutenant of The Baldwin Fire Department’s truck company 1 and supervisor for Sani 2, removed a woman from a house fire with five people trapped inside located on 30 East Roosevelt Ave. in Roosevelt on November 4 after being alerted by his scanner. The fire alerted the Roosevelt Fire Department at 8:47 a.m. and first responders like Brown joined the scene to assist.

The Baldwin Fire Department said Brown arrived on scene and met with Freeport Assistant Fire Chief Anthony Sotira. The two circled around the back of the house, and Brown reportedly used a police breaching tool to enter the home in through a wall. They said they made hole large enough to reach in and pull a trapped woman from the home. During his breaching attempts Brown received lacerations to his head and hands, which were later treated by fire department medics.

The Nassau County Police then took the unnamed resident to the hospital — she was reportedly in critical condition. Brown then went back to help Sotira to check the room for other residents.
