For the third consecutive year Baldwin High School was among the “Best High Schools” in America, according to the U.S. News & World Report. The U.S. News “Best High Schools” rankings include data on nearly 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Of those schools, approximately 17,800 were ranked based on six factors focused on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

“We are extremely proud to learn that U.S. News and World Report has once again ranked Baldwin High School nationally among the ‘Best High Schools’ for 2022 and for placing in the top 25% in New York State,” said Dr. Shari L. Camhi, superintendent of schools for Baldwin Union Free School District.

“This ranking speaks to the incredible hard work and dedication to our students, as well as the success of the innovative programs we continue to develop that focus on college and future readiness. We are grateful for our administration, faculty, staff, students, and families who have been instrumental in helping the district receive this distinction.”

In the break down of recipients, out of 1,325 high schools in New York State, Baldwin High School ranked number 340. According to U.S. News, the rankings are based on state education data collected from the 2019-20 school year and six indicators of school quality, including college readiness, reading and math proficiency, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rates.

College readiness, which counts for 30 percent of the overall score used to determine the school’s final ranking, specifically measures participation and performance on Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate exams. Of note, this does not include dual enrollment or college-level courses that many high schools offer today.

Baldwin High School’s current graduation rate is 98 percent. Some of Baldwin High School’s award-winning programs include the Academic Academies Program (a specialized school-to-career program), the unique partnership with SUNY Nassau (formerly Nassau Community College), Virtual Enterprise, AP and dual-enrollment (college credit) courses, a Virtual Internship Program, as well as nationally recognized arts and athletics. Educational leaders from across the country have visited the district over the years due to the success of the programs within Baldwin schools.
