Blessing of the wheels

The Oceanside Lutheran Church, always a popular spot for Baldwin residents to worship, mixed business with pleasure over the weekend hosting a fun-filled, but also informative, Blessing of the Wheels event.

Individuals young and old who ride bikes, skateboards, scooters, wheelchairs or anything else that rolls, were invited down to receive some help, both heavenly and human, for the safe operation of their wheeled devices.

Pastor Danielle Miller got things “rolling” by blessing the assembly and their bikes, trikes and boards, then the crowd observed a moment of silence for bicyclists who have been killed while riding. The group then participated in a bike rodeo, where they practiced bike handling and learned about good road habits.

“The kids learned how to properly put on a helmet, and those who didn’t have a helmet already received a free one,” Pastor Miller recounted. “Then they rode an obstacle course and participated in a bike rodeo. It was a really fun day and we think it’s great to promote safety while also encouraging kids to get out and exercise.”
