Baldwin High School students, Travis Brown, Edmund Lee, and Xavier Panky recently represented the district in the decidedly selective 2022 New York State Band Directors Association (NYSBDA) Symposium in Syracuse, NY. The theme for this year’s symposium was “Rebuilding.”

The musicians were selected based on their NYSSMA solo performances and high scores, as well as recommendations from their music teachers. Brown, who is a 11 grader, plays the tuba, while seniors Lee and Panky play bass trombone and trombone respectively.

“We are very proud of these students and their accomplishments. Being a part of the NYSBDA is a tremendous honor,” said Andre Poprilo, Director of Fine and Performing Arts for Baldwin Union Free School District.

Through the years, NYSBDA has earned the reputation of being the pre-eminent representative professional association for band directors in New York State. With the annual symposium being recognized as the leading professional development conference for band directors.
