Inspirations, a new gift shop and bookstore with a positive spin, cut the ribbon for its grand opening last Saturday. The shop, which is co-owned by Baldwin residents Tom Brady, Edward Rios and Mary Weidman, will sell what the owners called “inspiring items, many of them made by local artisans.”

Among Inspiration’s enlivening offerings will be candles handmade by Baldwin’s Maria Lardi, jewelry from resident and Baldwin elementary school teacher, Jessica Piccarillo (with help from two Oceansiders,)

beautifully designed hand-made cards by Miriam Schleicher of Rockville Centre, and a selection of CDs that includes area artists.

Brady, speaking for his fellow proprietors, said the trio never questioned whether or not to locate the store in Baldwin. “We want to see Baldwin’s shopping district restored to its former glory with unique stores like ours,” he said.

To make its grand opening special the shop, which is located at 2419 Grand Ave., hosted presentations by local artists. Neil Curtis, the Freeport-based author of “No God, Know God” appeared for a reading, and Baldwin author Diane Baumann read from her children’s books.
