Kids go ape over animals

Library turns into mini-preserve with visitors from Tackapausha

There wasn’t much reading going on at the Baldwin Public Library late last month.

Animal experts from the Tackapausha Museum & Preserve in Seaford stopped by with a few of furry, feathery, and, er, slithery friends to entertain the children.

On hand — literally — was Birch, the screech owl, which perched on handler Fernando Melian’s fingers during the presentation.

A couple of turtles, a ferret, Mugsy the rabbit, and Nigel the snake rounded out the complement of visitors. And the kids were mesmerized by the sight of the exotic fauna.
