Taylor, 47, has lived in Baldwin for 15 years. She has an 8-year-old daughter in Brookside School. She is currently a leave replacement speech teacher at Meadow School and helps diagnose and treat children with speech and language delays through the Nassau County Early Intervention Program.

Taylor grew up in Brooklyn, has a Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology, and is a certified public school teacher.

She is the former owner of two progressive preschools, one which she built from the ground up. There, she was responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, creating a budget, building an academic curriculum, hiring and supervising staff, and overseeing payroll and tuition.

Taylor has served on Brookside School's site-based committee for the past four years, been a class parent for three years, and will be entering her second year as legislative vice president of the PTA.

Taylor said she is running for a seat on the school board because she wants to ensure that the quality of education continues in the Baldwin district. She vowed to be a board member that would be an "advocate for transparency" when making decisions.

She expressed concern over the current board's original plan to raise some elementary class size limits and cut high school late buses next year. Though the plan has since been replaced by one that maintains the aforementioned proposals, Taylor said she was disappointed that the original plan was almost approved.

"I feel that it is important for our school board to not only be accountable and focused, but to also be open and approachable," Taylor said. "I want to be part of the decision-making process for the Baldwin School District and to be an advocate for transparency in the decisions made by the school board."
