Under sunny skies, the Baldwin Little League “kicked off” its spring season with an opening day ceremony at Baldwin Park. The actual season began in mid-April and rain delayed the ceremony once before.
The league also hosted a Pitch, Hit & Run competition that about 100 kids took part in. Tom Reilly, one of the league’s coaches, said he was happy with the turnout and said the day ran smoothly throughout.
Local politicians were also in attendance to help ring in the season, including Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray, Councilman Anthony Santino, Clerk Nasrin Ahmad, Assemblyman Brian Curran and Nassau County Leg. Laura Curran.
The league, which is comprised of about 250 kids, ages 4 to 16, will wear Baseball for a Cure shirts and pink socks on May 10 to raise money for the breast cancer research.
