A man who was struck by an LIRR train at the Baldwin station on Wednesday evening died of his injuries on Thursday, say officials from the railroad.

The victim, who has been identified only as a man in his 50s, passed away at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, said Sam Zambuto, a spokesman for the LIRR. “The man was struck Wednesday by the 7:08 p.m. train from Penn Station due at the Babylon station at 8:20 p.m.,” Zambuto told the Herald. “That train was canceled after striking the victim at 7:55 p.m., and all train service on that line was stopped in both directions for about an hour.” Zambuto added that about 1,300 people were on the train, and that MTA police are still investigating how and why the individual came to be on the track.
