The staff and teachers at Baldwin Middle School, as well as District Office personnel, have been more than active in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. But last week’s effort took the cake… or should that be pumpkin pie?

Searching for a meaningful way to continue to contribute to hurricane relief, BMS put on a large-scale early Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 20 for families impacted by Sandy. Using paper goods, drinks and decorations donated by the Parent Teacher Association, BMS held two seatings packed with hungry folks. Helping out during the day were Dr. James Mapes, Superintendent of Baldwin Schools, along with numerous Baldwin students including members of the Bruins football team who were gearing up to meet Farmingdale last Friday. (See page 1.) The students in attendance even provided live music!

BMS Principal Tim Maher estimated that some 250 people came to the first seating, which ran from 5 to 7 p.m. He said a large crowd of more than 450 appeared for the second round!
