New fire chief takes over

Michael Jazylo took the reins of the Baldwin Fire Department on New Year’s Day. He was officially sworn in by Commissioner Robert Quackenbush at the annual department meeting in December. Jazylo, a 22-year veteran of the department follows Karen Bendel as chief of department.

Jazylo, 42, joined the department in 1993 and was assigned to Hook and Ladder Co. No. 2. In 2000, he was sworn in as company lieutenant and became captain two years later. He was made deputy chief in 2013.

Jazylo, a lifelong Baldwin resident, is married to Kathleen. They have two sons, Michael, 9, and Ryan, 8. Jazylo’s parents are Richard and Maureen Jazylo.

Hose Co. 1: Capt. Thomas Yanantuono, Lt. Charles Jamison III, Lt. William Dworsak.

Hose Co. 2: Capt. Christopher LaManna, Lt. Craig Wells, Lt. Kyle Knoernschild.

Hose Co. 3: Capt. Lee Streithorst, Lt. Kyle Neumann, Lt. Timothy St.George.

Hose Co. 4: Capt. Courtney Donaldson, Lt. James Carl, Lt. Henry Carballo

Hook and Ladder 1: Capt. Christopher Schwenker III, Lt. Michael Shaw, Lt. Thomas Kelleher.

Hook and Ladder Co. 2: Capt. Christopher Wells, Lt. Anthony Hopkins, Lt. Timothy Hagan.

First Aid Co.: Capt. Stuart Lang, Lt. Linda Nolan, Lt. Christopher Abed.

The Baldwin Fire Department responded to over 2,300 alarms in 2015, the department said.
