Scannell a shoo-in

Elections board says victory all but certain for incumbent

It would take nothing less than a miracle for Republican Chris Browne to unseat Democratic incumbent county Legislator Joe Scannell in the 5th Legislative District race, according to Nassau County elections officials.

According to Thomas Garry, counsel to the county’s Democratic election commissioner, William Biamonte, Scannell is leading Browne by a vote tally of 7,103 to 6,738 — a 365-vote margin — with all of the machine votes counted. Garry explained that with only 384 absentee ballots and approximately 30 affidavit ballots left to count, 97 percent of those ballots would have to be for Browne in order for him to pull off a victory. Said Garry, “That's not happening.”
