The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, led by pianist Jonathan Biss, visits Tilles Center with an all-Mozart program, Saturday, Nov. 6, at 8 p.m. The ensemble will perform Symphony in D major ("La finta giardiniera"), Piano Concerto No. 12 in A major, Piano Concerto No. 9 in E flat major, and the Symphony No. 29 in A Major.

Sir Neville Marriner says that the small ensemble he founded in 1958 “had no intention of giving any concerts or continuing forever." More than 50 years later, the Academy is firmly established as one of the world’s leading chamber orchestras. Sir Neville was forced to put down his violin and take up the conductor’s baton, but the collegiate spirit and flexibility of the original small, conductor-less ensemble remains an Academy hallmark.

Dr. Genevieve Chinn, Professor of Music and Director of Music History, C.W. Post Campus, Long Island University, will lead a pre-performance discussion as part of Tilles Center’s Performance PLUS! series

Tickets are $80, $65 and $40; available at (516) 299-3100 or (800) 745-3000 or www.ticketmaster.com.
