On Aug. 3 the Town of Hempstead Board unanimously voted to approve upcoming improvements to Baldwin Park as part of their Park Capital Improvement Projects.

According to the Town of Hempstead, an estimated $590,000 will be invested into Baldwin Park under this plan, funded through municipal bonds as part of the town’s ongoing capital improvements. Baldwin Park is one of four parks in the Hempstead area to be scheduled to receive these improvements.

The money being used for Baldwin Park will be divided into three different projects. The largest improvement in the plan is the full refurbishment of all of the paths in Baldwin Park and is estimated to cost about $490,000., which will begin this fall.

The second project in Baldwin Park is upgrading and improving entrances to the park and entry way fencing. The entrance upgrades are estimated to cost about $50,000.

The third project is still in the pre-planning stages and does not yet have a design, but it plans to add a new half pipe to the Baldwin Park skate park. The installation of the half pipe will have an estimated cost of around $50,000, and updates on this project will be posted in the Town of Hempstead's Baldwin Skate Park webpage.

Councilmember Carini stated, “Working with Supervisor Don Clavin and my colleagues on the Town Board, I am proud to announce upgrades at Baldwin Park.”

Located in Baldwin Harbor, Baldwin Park is a popular place for recreational and fitness activities. Its amenities already include baseball fields, tennis and pickleball courts, handball courts, shuffleboard, soccer fields, basketball courts, skate park, roller skate rink, exercise stations, walking and picnic areas and a dog run.

“Our parks and open spaces are truly gems of America’s largest township, utilized by our residents for an array of purposes, including recreational, fitness, athletics and socialization,“ Supervisor Down Clavin said.

He added, “We are committed to upgrading our parks and keeping them pristine so community members can enjoy them with their families, friends and neighbors. We look forward to breaking ground and unveiling these improvements in the near future.”
