Danny Lyon: Memories of the Civil Rights Movement
Based upon Danny Lyon’s memoir, this exhibition brings together the photographs he took from 1962 to 1964 while traveling through the United States documenting the civil rights movement. With this body of work Lyon helped define a form of photojournalism in which the image maker is deeply and personally embedded in his subject matter. Through April 13. Halston Style

A comprehensive retrospective of the works of the American fashion designer Halston. The exhibition includes many never-before-seen objects from the designer’s personal archives and more than 60 Halston fashions, juxtaposed with photographs, artwork, illustrations and accessories as well as film and video documentation. Mysteries of Bats
Tackapausha Museum and Preserve’s exhibit examines varied species of bats, featuring a live family of Egyptian Fruit Bats who fly and “hang out” in the museum’s nocturnal area. Other installations include displays about Long Island’s ecology and interactive activities. Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at the Heckscher Museum
This juried exhibition, now in its 21st year, features 84 works of art by students in grades 9 through 12 attending 57 public and private schools throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Mort Künstler: The New Nation
The exhibit traces the story of the birth of our country, from settlement through the Revolutionary War to and the inauguration of George Washington as the nation’s first president, as seen through the artistic lense of Mort Künstler.
