Two armed men robbed the RadioShack on Sunrise Highway in Merrick around 9:15 a.m. on May 5 and took off in a green 1996 four-door Ford Explorer, leading Nassau County police on a high-speed chase on Merrick Road in Merrick, according to authorities.

Four North Bellmore children returned to their Smith Avenue home from school on May 1 to find blood in their kitchen and their mother stabbed to death in the nearby laundry room. Sherrelle Hayes, 44, was stabbed three times by her husband, Thomas, 43, Nassau County police said.

A Queens man was arrested Wednesday at 11:50 p.m. and charged with stealing money from a donation box at the Jaame Mafjid Mosque on Newbridge Road in North Bellmore. Nassau County Police arrested Ahmad Saeed, 48, after the suspect was caught on the mosque’s surveillance video.

A Nassau County police officer was found dead Monday morning at Mill Pond Preserve in Bellmore. Police report that a pedestrian was walking through the preserve when he came across a male’s body on the bike bath. It is believed to be an act of suicide.

Robert Lazos died on Friday at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Hospital, according to published reports.
