JFK girls’ soccer turns night match into fundraiser

For just the second time ever, female athletes at John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore took to the school’s main field for a nighttime game last Thursday, Sept. 26. Like the following night’s Homecoming game between Kennedy and South Side High School’s football teams, relatives and friends of players stood cheering in the stands, music blared from loudspeakers, and the JFK Sports Boosters Club sold school clothing. more

Kennedy goalkeeper Nicole Liotta stood at attention for the national anthem before a recent night match against Massapequa. The game, dedicated to breast cancer awareness, raised $600, and was the first girls’ sporting event in Kennedy history to be played under the lights.

At Kennedy, it’s more than a game

The Kennedy girls’ soccer team marched from under the bleachers onto the field on Oct. 11, with the players donning pink warmup shirts that read “Playing for a Cure.” more

Kennedy soccer team raises funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation

The Kennedy High School girls’ soccer team came together on Sept. 17 in support of Children’s Cancer Awareness Month. After an early-morning practice, all 23 players met at Salon Envy in Merrick and purchased Streaks of Sunshine hair extensions, with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York. The extensions are $10 each. more
