Bellmore hosts health workshop for nurses

Posted

Bellmore School District officials recently hosted more than 200 school nurses from across Nassau County for a health workshop.

The program was held at the Charles A. Reinhard Early Childhood Center on South St. Mark’s Avenue on Nov. 4. The event, which was co-sponsored by the Nassau County Council of School Superintendents, featured speakers who provided information about keeping students healthy.

Dr. Lawrence Eisenstein, the Nassau County Department of Health commissioner, was the workshop’s keynote speaker. He discussed topics related to communicable diseases, including enterovirus EV-D68, a potentially deadly virus that causes severe inflammation of the respiratory tract. He and other presenters also discussed ways to prevent a more basic ailment –– the common cold. Eisenstein then opened the floor to the nurses, encouraging them to ask questions and share their concerns.

David Feller, the North Merrick School District superintendent who is also the president of the Nassau County Council of School Superintendents, also attended the workshop.
