Meaghan Soel (Mepham), Kate Cornman (Kennedy) and Gabbie Toback (Calhoun), Bellmore-Merrick’s three captains, cheered their teammates on at the meet against Garden City.

The Lady Sharks are now preparing for the county championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center, which will begin on Nov. 2. Kaefer, who has coached the team for 17 years, said the squad has yet to take the county crown.

But swimmers like Paige Kaplan have high hopes. “We have a good chance to take the title,” she said. “We have so much more confidence after beating Garden City.”
