Army base development discussed at civic meeting

Posted

At a North Bellmore Civic Association meeting on Monday, the development of the former army base on Maple Avenue in North Bellmore was discussed. The lot, which has been vacant for more than 10 years, is in the process of being excavated and cleaned up, Civic Association President Reinaldo Nunez said.

The plot will be developed with new single-family homes. Between 72 and 78 homes will be built ,with the smallest home measuring 60 by 100 cubic feet.

The Town of Hempstead had challenged development of the site, but lost at all three levels of appeal in court. Nunez said that the North Bellmore School District is aware of the development, and that rezoning of schools may be necessary in the future.
