America’s Irreplaceable Dance Treasures: The First 100
The exhibit showcases influential dance movements, institutions and individual artists who have shaped American dance. The 100 “treasures” encompass a wide range of styles and ideas in photographs and video clips. Through Dec. 6. Hofstra University’s David Filderman Gallery, 9th floor, Joan and Donald E. Gordon Cheung & Jonathan Seliger
An exhibition of two important contemporary artists. Gordon Cheung uses Financial Times stock listings in his multimedia paintings. His paintings are virtual-reality environments which comment on the ability of stock exchange numbers to deliver a “promised land” to people’s lives. Jonathan Seliger works with paint and canvas to produce three-dimensional structures. His works are included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Brooklyn Museum, among others. Through Jan. 3. Long Island Moderns: Artists on the North Shore from Edward Steichen to Cindy Sherman

A Long Island View

Norman Rockwell
An exhibit of Saturday Evening Post illustrator Norman Rockwell’s images that defined America and Americans, in this country and abroad. The exhibition includes Rockwell’s iconic Four Freedoms series of patriotic paintings symbolizing President Roosevelt’s wartime aims: Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Worship, Freedom from Want and Freedom from Fear.
