Bellmore F.D. battles electrical fire

When an outdoor electrical fire ignited the garage of a Johnson Place home last weekend, the Bellmore Fire Department extinguished the blaze, preventing further damage.

Vincent Scaduto, the department’s public information officer, said officials received reports from a neighbor who noticed smoke near the home at about 2 p.m. on July 21. He explained that an exterior electrical fire set the garage’s roof on fire.

Damage was contained to the top and side of the garage, Scaduto said. He explained that a rapid interior attack by firefighters from Bellmore Engine 601 allowed them to extinguish the fire and prevent flames from spreading into the home.

No injuries were reported. North Bellmore Ladder 657 also responded, Scaduto said.. Merrick, North Merrick and Wantagh units were on standby at Bellmore Fire Department headquarters on Pettit Avenue.
