Bellmore Fire Department installs officers

Posted

On Valentine’s Day, Bellmore Fire Department volunteers expressed their love for and loyalty to fire service by accepting leadership positions in the organization.

The Bellmore Fire Department held its 118th annual ceremony to install chiefs and officers in Hauppauge on Feb. 14. Among the notable moments at the ceremony was the installation of Daniel Holl, a seasoned firefighter, as the department’s 65th chief.

Holl started his career in the Bellmore Fire Department as a member of the Junior Squad in 1979 and rose through the ranks quickly, becoming a lieutenant and captain of Engine 601 and then assistant chief.

In 1993, Holl became chief of the department for the first time. When his term was up, he continued to serve as an assistant chief, captain or lieutenant until he was named chief once again in 2012.

Holl is only the second volunteer in Bellmore Fire Department history to serve as chief for three terms. He was sworn into the post with his wife, Christine, and his sons, Ryan (a Bellmore Fire Department member) and Kevin (a member of Bellmore’s Junior Squad), by his side.

Professionally, Holl is a lieutenant with the New York City Fire Department, assigned to the 11th Division in Brooklyn. And he is a public education specialist with the Public Education Division of the Nassau County Fire Service Academy.

Two more volunteers took on roles in the chiefs’ offices. Vincent Montera was sworn in as first assistant chief, while Thomas Stoerger became second assistant chief.

The following volunteers were installed as captains: Peter C. Schmalenberger, Matthew Lynch, Joseph Ancona, Michael Irving, Denis McCann, Paul Zuckerberg and Dennis Rich. Lieutenants Brandon Conway, Robert Taylor, Salvatore Ancona, Nathan O’Connell, Matthew O’Connor, Maureen Scaduto, Eric Ozechowski, Richard Holzhauer, George Zipper and Ronald Ullrich.

In addition to installing officers, the Bellmore Fire Department honored longtime members. Beltrany Setteducati was recognized for 65 years of service, and Peter Schmalenberger Jr., for 60 years. Also honored were Dennis Rich, Ronald Ullrich, Raymond Of and Kenneth Noon for 50 years of service.
