Bellmore man dies in ATV accident

A Bellmore man died in an accident involving an all-terrain vehicle while he was upstate over the Memorial Day weekend, New York State Police Department officials said.

Police found Keith Stratton, 36, dead in a shallow creek off Apex Road in Tompkins, N.Y., at about 9:30 p.m. on May 26. He was lying near the overturned ATV that police said he was riding before he died.

Stratton was reportedly visiting the Delaware County town for a family party and took a ride on an ATV without a helmet. Police said he failed to make a right turn and overturned in a nearby creek. Alcohol was a factor in the accident, authorities noted in a news release.

Delaware County Deputy Medical Examiner James Cooros responded to the scene and pronounced Stratton dead. He determined that he was killed on impact.
