Jonathan Leiz, a 28-year-old Bellmore resident, was pronounced dead after his 1997 Infinity struck a house on 5th Avenue in Garden City Park Thursday at 2:18 a.m.

Officials are reporting that Leiz's car was traveling at high speed, westbound on Broadway, when he failed to stop at a stop sign before he collided with the house. The front of the vehicle landed in the basement, with the rear teetering on the edge. Nassau County Police Emergency Services responded, and with the aid of fire departments from Garden City Park, New Hyde Park and Bethpage removed the vehicle. A 48-year old male and his 72-year old mother, residents of the Garden City Park home, were on the second floor of the house at the time of the incident and were unharmed.

Jose Varraos, 23, of Freeport, and Alden La-Rocca, 26, of Mineola, were also in the car and were rushed to Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola in critical condition. Investigations as to the cause of the crash are ongoing and toxicology reports are being processed, police said.
