Central Nassau hit by two bank jobs in a week

A man robbed a Bank of America on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 9:15 a.m., according to police. The incident follows a robbery attempt at the Citibank in Merrick last week.

In each case, the suspect's dress and appearance were similar, according to surveillance photographs, but police could not confirm whether the man was one and the same person in both incidents, because officials said their investigation is ongoing.

Police said the suspect in the Levittown robbery, described as a white male, six feet tall, medium build, with a goatee and thin beard, wearing a black pea coat and a tan brimmed cap, entered the bank and handed a demand note to the teller.

He then ran off through the rear door with an undetermined amount of money, police said. Five employees and two customers were at the bank at the time. No injuries were reported.

The robbery attempt at the Merrick Citibank occurred on Wednesday, Feb. 2, when a white male, who also wore a brimmed cap and black coat, and had a mustache and thin beard, entered the bank and passed a demand note to the teller. He left the bank without obtaining any money.

Police ask anyone with information about these crimes to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
